In a serious situation where people are in immediate danger or considerable amount of property is at risk, you should always contact the authorities first.

The General emergency number for calling an ambulance, fire departement, police or social services is 112. Works on all mobile phones, even without SIM card.

When you need to call 112:

• If you can, make the call yourself
• Let the dispatcher know who is calling and what has happened
• Tell the exact address and the town you are calling from
• Answer all the questions, do not rush or try to explain everything
• Follow the instructions from the dispatcher
• End call only when dispatcher gives you the permission to do so.

If you see, hear, notice or feel there is a safety concern at the campus, do not hesitate to report it as soon as possible. You can submit a safety observation in the following ways:

4.1 Personal safety

• Always keep your mobile phone with you
• Learn how to call 112 and install the 112 app to your phone
• If you feel like you should report a safety observation, do it. It is better to report something that may not important then not report something that can be very important.
• Think ahead and find out about the safety issues in your working space. Check the location exits and safety equipment regularly

If you are a member of staff:

• Always wear your ID Card at campus. This is the best way to identify and also to be identified as a member  of staff.
• Keep your keys with you at all times, as many doors might be locked. Also, lock the doors if you want to keep unauthorized  people outside.
• Take part in safety trainings and excercises. Even if your colleague has the skill, she or he might be the one needing the help.

4.2 Fire safety

Fire alarm is probably the most  common interruption of everyday safety. When a fire alarm goes of or someone reports a fire, you should evacuate immediately. HAMK Staff is traoned to evacuation procedures and will guide students and guests to gathering points.

If you hear or receive a fire alarm, react immediately:

• Pick up your mobile phone and outdoor clothes, if they are near you
• lock your computer and shut down all machines and equipment that you were using
• Leave the area and make sure no one stays behind
• Move to the closest exit following the emegency exit route signs
• If you meet people on the way, tell them to exit at once too
• When you get outside, move well away from the building
• Make your way to the assembly area and stay there until you get further instructions from staff or authorities

There is also  plenty of fire extinguishing equipment available to put out small fires or to ease the evacuation if there is flames near by.

4.3 First aid

Everyone should have at least a general idea on first aid. The most important thing is to react, to assess the situation and call 112 for help, if needed.
